| Stockport Walking & Outdoor Group is a multi-activity group with individual members aged 18 to 70+ as well as a number of families. We are affiliated to the YHA (England and Wales) Ltd. To help defray the running costs of the Group (e.g. insurance cover, programme publishing, room hire, speaker fees, etc) the annual subscription of £5 per person is collected in January each year. For families we include under 18's in the parents membership free of charge. New faces are always welcome ... just come along to any of our events: Wednesday Walks (Summer programme May to August) See the programme for details of the starting point. All walks start at 7.30pm (prompt) unless otherwise stated Wednesday Indoor Meetings (September to April) Hazel Grove Civic Centre (ground floor, in the room to the left of the staircase) London Road Hazel Grove SK7 4DF We meet at 8pm prompt Admission is £1 (and includes tea), free on your first visit. After the meeting we will visit The Grapes public house. Click here to find us Sunday Walks Please check details but usually we meet 9.30am at the Car Park in Torkington Park Hazel Grove, opposite the Rising Sun pub (GR 926865) or at Grand Central Car Park off Railway Road, Stockport (GR 893903). Occasionally we stop at a pub for lunch but often not. Therefore it is essential to bring a packed lunch and a drink. Transport and petrol costs are shared between occupants of each car. New for 2009 Family Walks Sunday Cycle Rides Please meet at the start point – contact the leader for details. There is usually a pub stop at lunchtime, but not all pubs serve food so please bring a packed lunch. Weekends To book for a weekend please contact the weekend organiser. Full payment may be required at the time of booking and cancellation charges may be applied in line with the booking rules of the hostels. A small administration fee may be levied for each booking. Pub Nights We also have an informal gathering most Friday nights in a local pub. Meet approximately 9pm. Other Activities are arranged from time to time and will be published on the website and in the programme. These may include: Indoor Climbing Theatre trips, Meals, Canoeing, Barbecues, Cinema visits, Skiing Holidays Photos and reports of group events Members of the group receive updates and more detailed information about events by email. | __________________________________________________________________________ . Everyone taking part in Group activities does so at their own risk. The Group will not be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss occurring as a result of any Group event or in connection with travel to such event, however caused. Members attending are reminded that outdoor activities frequently need specialist equipment (boots, waterproofs, etc) and the group does not provide these. Should you attend an event and in the opinion of the leader, be ill-equipped for the terrain and weather conditions then you will be politely turned away. Please contact the leader in advance if you are unsure what will be appropriate for the event. Accompanied children are welcome but it may be best to check with the walk leader beforehand to ensure that the terrain and distance are suitable. | ||||
